I wanted to respond to some of the comments that my friends have made. First, mountain lions better watch out for me! I am no joke lol. Actually I doubt they will be aggressive with me and my brother together on the road. Gene, I don’t need those old shoes and thanks for the generous offer about helping with the bike but with me stopping and working I would like to accomplish that. But thank you as always bro.

Hey Jeff, I read so much man… its a huge pastime of mine. Thanks for those recommendations I am going to see if I can find them at the library or bookstore. Always keep things like that coming, I am just addicted to reading. How is your brother and the whole crew?  Emailing the Helio/site address will fail as I don’t have it activated at this time, minimum wage and all lol. I will email you from a personal email address.

Greg, yes I am keeping my eye open for fire departments in areas I want to live to be accepting applications. The moment I see one open up I will jump on it, its still my dream. As for biking, there are many reasons. Do I think it will be easier? Not really just faster. It will still be a full day of physical and mental challenge but just less of them. The new”ness” of it will be awesome, I have never biked any distance due to my size since I was a kid. Mainly its about my safety. Walking alone in the east was one thing, walking alone through NM, AR, etc with extremely sparse population and phone service is not a smart decision. Back before the walk when I was depressed and had no goals I probably wouldn’t of cared about my safety, like when I started I just didn’t care. But over my walk I have developed a solid appreciation for myself and am concerned about my well being. My brother will not walk the whole way… he understands what I have already gone through and just knows how that would be too hard and he would fail. He is willing to “taste” it before changing up. I am also wondering if others would join me if I was to bike a portion, that would be awesome. The more the safer especially that my 17 year old bro will be on this trip. It raises the responsibility and the concern.

It will be extremely hard to get back to it… sometimes I wonder if I should have stopped. I have only been working my job a short time but just absolutely love it. I would work 80 hours if I could… I find “home” life a little slow and boring anyhow lol. Its just mall security but helping a child find a lost parent, providing service to people in general is just my calling. I can tell you FD/PD is just where I need to go to get the satisfaction in my life I need. I just love helping people and this job. Its on a bike path, if the weather was a little better I would bike the 4 miles round trip to and from work. And the job itself is just tons of walking… I absolutely love it. If only the mall was really a wildlife refuge filled with people lol. Well more to come (I think I always say that :))

    Jaybo,

Thanks for the response. Sounds like you have the second part of your journey well thought out. Given the geographic differences, I understand why you are biking now and the responsibility you feel for your safety and your brother’s well being.
I can see you being an excellent FF/PO. It sounds like you know what it takes to get there when you reach that point. You are finding out a lot about yourself as each day goes by. We are all on a journey. We just take different roads.
On a personal note, I am facing cancer surgery on Tuesday. After facing divorce, the birth of 4 children, unemployment more than once, the death of most of the people I really loved, a second marriage and the challenge of moving 800 miles from home to start a new job, this is just another challenge I have to face.
Take care and keep us Jaybo fans updated.

    Greg

The Family is all well. Looking to here from you.

Another Book I have started and am enjoying is

The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan

I, like you, and a book junky! I wish I had more time to read. I currently can only knock down about 2 to 3 a month.

  5. Harriet Says:

    Jaybo,
Again you are a big phony…you have changed your mind about jobs, locatiions, walking and now your final destination and how to get there…what happened to the walk? You are nothing but a big phony! All you ever wanted it seems was to make everyone feel sorry for you…”poor me, I am overweight, unhappy, lost my wife, and just need to start over.”
You suckered in so many people with your site, and your “walk” as you traveled along and met people, then you took advantage of so many people who thought they were being nice to you. Yep, you are a freeloader, and now you are again trying to make people like you. Look how many people have offered you services, or even money.
What happened to the job you told us you had lined up before the holidays? You are so undecided about things….how can you look at yourself in the mirror every day, knowing you are such a phony?
You are a leach! I am sure others feel this way, but they do not have the guts to tell it like it is!!!
I know this will cause many of your “fans” to rise up against me, but who cares? I say it as I see it…..you are a big phony! I pity your brother if he tries to emulate you…what a role model you are…he can certainly do the best thing for himself, and forget you. I am sure he can make life better on his own, without your “help”

    Harriet ~

If you feel JayBo is such a “phoney” then WHY do you feel compelled to keep coming back and posting on his site. No one cares what you think (and everyone is entitled to their opinion), but don’t you remember what your mom told you as a child ? “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all !!!”
Personally, I think deep down you envy Jason … you envy all the support that he’s getting … and all you can be is a “Debbie Downer” … so “Debbie” , why don’t you take your negitive comments and go to someone else’s forum and post. You’re not WANTED here anymore.

It might be a good idea to practice riding a bike if you have not done that in years. I would not want you throwing you bike in the dirt and leaving it there because you bottom hurt too much.

  10. Shannan Says:

    Hi Jay,
I’ve been keeping up with your site and just wanted to let you know that I’m glad you are looking into the different possibilities of how you might continue your trip. Remember to do what’s right for you. Will always support you in any way. Hope you are feeling great and your spirits are up. I’m glad you are enjoying your job and look forward to hearing about your future progress. God Bless! Shannan

  11. Harriet Says:

Still a phony! So what gives with changing your mind about jobs… You need to grow up and make decisions which show maturity, not just taking advantage of people who are suckered into your story of how you want to change your life.
Sorry, but I feel you have really been a big loss to those who at first supported you and your idea.
As for the comment from “a supporter”….no, I am not envious in the least. At least, when I make a decision, I have good reason and will not ask for help from people with such sad tales as we have heard
And I guess I keep visiting the site to see if he really has made a change in his life. so far,…..no, just the same trivel we have received since June 07, It is almost a year, and what has he gained…nothing but freeloading from those he has met. I do not plan to meet him in California, as I had said, frankly, don’t think he will ever make it past his secret location now! Notice, he does not say where he is…..why…….?
    Yes, Jaybo is a phony.

  12. Amanda Says:

I too have been keeping up with your site and am looking forward to your next step. I do wish that Harriet would keep quiet instead of bashing you every chance she gets. I don’t read her posts but when ever I get on your site, I hate to see that she has posted recently. Regardless of what path you choose to following going forward, its all up to you. Even if circumstance prevent you from continuing, you have come a long way. I do hope that you finish but if not, I will not bash you because you have done something most of us could never do. You are growing in ways you never imagined and I am just glad you are sharing it with us.

    May God bless you!

    Amanda

    Jay,
I am so excited for you to get started back. It breaks up my day reading your blog. Anyway, I am a big reader. Here are a couple you should read:

    Water for Elephants
    Duma Key by Stephen King

    Have a great day!

  14. KB Says:

I stumbled across and was very intrigued. I was wondering if you have heard of Steve Vaught (sp?) aka “Fat Man Walking”? I read that you were planning on writing a book and was wondering how you believed that your stories differ and how they are similar. If you have you have not heard of him I thought you might enjoy his story as well (just google). Thank you for opening up your thoughts to us.

Fellow admirer and hopefully one day walker

  15. Shari P Says:

HARRIET get a @#$%en life……I am guessing you are a 500pound virgin…with no life and you have nothing better to do then sit on your FAT ass and down play people…Ok you got me now….I am letting you get the best of me and I think I am one of the few that will tell you to FU@# OFF @#TCH…ok I feel better now…sorry Jay but she rubs me the wrong way…oh yeah this one is for my Mom that is a Jaybo fan..( Mom I know you told me not to let the FU@#EN BIT@# get the best of me SORRY) Harriet the name says it all…wasn’t she a witch…lololol…whatever……..you go Jaybo you still have your friends in SC….Hell ya….walk on

  16. Harriet Says:

Jaybo is still a big phony! If he is so gung ho on walking across America as he had first stated, why is he not doing so now? Just read an article in paper recently where a man is walking across America carring a cross. Now that is impressive! There was no indication he is fleecing those he meets, or stayng in their homes, or looking for a job, or feigning misery. Rather he is walking for the glory of the Lord, indicating that he has a purpose. Jaybo has no purpose in life!
As for his little brother, boy does he have a lot to learn about life. With the instructions I am sure he is receiving, he will probably end up just like Jason…a real bum!
At first I was impressed with the journals, the photos, the site. But now it would be better is Jason just faded out of site. Who cares about him anymore? His brief 15 minutes of fame has quickly gone away.
No, I am not as you described…if you have been reading the posts from the beginning, you would know about me.
I am just a very disappointed visitor to the site, and have regrets that this has turned into nothing now….just a few of us who visit, just to see if the “walk ” will
    ever resume…. very doubtful.
Sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but face it….this is just another scam, and he is a phony!

  17. Louise Says:

Harriet: What IS your problem? You’ve been asked nicely and not so nicely too to shut up and get lost. Do you really enjoy reading about how everyone detests you and wishes you would cease and desist? Do you honestly think you are accomplishing anything good with all your long-since, boring comments? Why do you think Jay has to tell everyone where he is? It’s not your business where he is waiting it out for decent weather to continue. Everytime I read your comments I wonder if you’re a psych major in some very minor college with the assignment to discover what words, expressions, or phrases set people off. In other words, do you really enjoy spoiling this site with your nonsense or is there a worthwhile purpose to your madness. I do mean madness - you must really hate the world. Whatever - you’re SO BORING AND ACIDIC. Around Xmas time you became almost civil. You sounded for a minute or two like a normal person, and it was nice. Why did you go and spoil it?

  18. INSP Says:

Contrary to shariP say`s. I thyink Hariett is a very nice name. However after saying that; this person on this site with that name does the name an injustice.
I have said what I think about that person. I just wanted to clear the air on such a wonderful name.

Jay it seems like were having a longer winter this year. Do you wish to share with this board you plans for your journey? Or do you wish to remain a private citizen with regards to this issue?

  19. Shari P Says:

Rock on Louise…you are so right if you have nothing to say then don’t say it…as for the responce to Harriet…I really could think of a nicer name…sorry to those out there with this name sorry but she really suckkkkkkkkkssssssssssss…you really must be bored with your life…I am all about Jaybo and if he needs some time then so be it…I am with you all the way even if takes yrs…that is what friends are for…if you need a break then take one…who caresssssssssss…take your time and I WILL see you in Ca…unlike Harriet…that is the supporter I am …I have not been to Ca in a while…Jaybo you give me a reason to make a trip there…much love and best wishes to you and you brother….

  20. Shari P Says:

Oh yeah Harriet if you are so unhappy about the site…Quit @#$KEN looking at it…END OF STORY….and just to let you know I have been following Jay since the start and I will till the end…threw the ups and downs…unlike you…

  21. McGee Says:

Jaybo set out on a journey with little resources. So what does he do? He trusts God.
How does one trust God for help? There is only one way that God can help people in this world and that is through other people.
All this crap about carrying a cross on your back across country to impress God (or people) is garbage. The Bible says working for your righteousness is garbage to God. God wants your trust and love Him and out of that you will naturally want to do good works to help people. God doesn’t want a bunch of people that do things for Him so He won’t be mad at them like he’s some angry slave driver with a whip in his hand. The Bible says that God’s kingdom is a family. God is the Father. We are God’s children and Jesus is our older brother.
So setting out and trusting people for help is not free-loading. It is trusting God.

  22. WO747 Says:

It would be nice to have a once a week update, or eventually most people will forget about this whole thing. Or if he has decided to get out all together….man up ….and reveal it. It’s better to have tried and fallen short than to not have tried at all….if you gave it your all.

  23. Dawn Richards Says:

    Jay,
forget all of the negative posts…keep on keepin’ on!!!!!!!!I wish I could join you on a bike… that would be way coooool!!!!
Good Luck! and Don’t give up!!!!!Ever!
