Mag wheels are often bought for a car to make it look really great. They are lighter than ordinary wheels but they are also much shinier. Having mag wheels makes the car owner very proud of his car. But what happens when in a few months those lovely shiny wheels have dimmed to a sad grey? That is the result of not keeping them properly clean ' or of using the wrong cleanser. Not to worry, that grey look can be removed and your lovely mag wheels restored to their pristine shine.
Firstly, remove all road dust and grime with a pressure hose. But never spray mag wheels with cold water when they are hot. Cold water on hot brakes may cause the rotors to warp and it can also cause spotting on the surface. Once all the road dirt and dust has been removed, fill a bucket with warm, soapy water and use a terry cloth to thoroughly scrub those mags. An old toothbrush or other soft-bristled brush with a long handle can be used to reach into all the hard to get at parts.
Once they are clean, rinse off the suds and let dry, then apply a good aluminium polish to the mag wheels. Apply it with a soft cloth and polish it with another clean soft cloth. If possible take the tyres right off the car to clean and polish them, then you can do the back side as well as the front.
When the back side is cleaned and polished it will help light to reflect onto the front, thus increasing the shine. Once the tyres are dry, replace them, making sure your hands are clean. Never use cleaners that contain ammonia as these can cause spotting.
