I’ve wondered why you didn’t take a more Northerly route during the summer months, to help escape some of the more intense Southern heat, then migrate the route South as the winter approached…

I agree this site is hard to navigate but I enjoy it anyway. Not sure were to leave messages or email Jay, if he is intrested in email. I read about his journey daily….if he decides to come to Southern California I will hook him up with food/shower. Great story!

  7. Barry Monaco Says:

web site is slower to load and clunky to move around in now. maybe cut image resolution or get rid of big photo graphic. not sure if that’s what is making it slower or not.

I’ll still read and enjoy it. Keep going!

Collierville, FAQ, Tennessee

In response to the comment by Patrick: it appears that most of the interstates in Texas have access roads I could walk on. As for other states, I would need authority to walk on the interstates, if it’s prohibited. Not all states are the same, and some you can walk on the interstates… So I am told.

Water

FAQ, Tennessee

(response to comment)
Right now I use a 2 liter Camelbak and 1.5 liter Nalgene bottle. Usually I don’t fill the Nalgene but with this heat I am going through them both between stops. A survival guide, not really. I do have a water filter and if completely desperate I will hit up a swampy area or even a …

Money

FAQ, Spring City, Tennessee

In response to the question about money.

I have two private sponsors… Chris and Bryan. They are not only putting in lots of time for project Jaybo, but are putting up all the money for expenses. They are hard working guys and have contributed into the thousands already. The costs just add up, hotels, food, gear, cell phone unlimited …

MP3

FAQ, Kingston, Tennessee

(response to comment)
Right now I have a small MP3 player but it is dedicated to Thru the Bible. It was just something I had around the house when I left. I usually will look to update it at a hotel, but since I am looking at campsites more I might need to be creative and find libraries. I …

Route

FAQ, Kingston, Tennessee

Question was why didn’t I take a more northern route in the summer.

Well… I really don’t know. When we were talking about the whole thing in Boston we knew I couldn’t start there. Beginning off, I did only 6 to 10 miles a day and would have run into population issues while looking for camp. Also we didn’t …

Music

FAQ, Kingston, Tennessee

Yeah I need to get some music bad LOL. I overwrote my playlist for Thru the Bible but that was priority. As far as what I like, that’s a tricky question. To me there is good music and bad music… Its not based on genre. I usually listen to rock, metal, prog but like everything. If I am in the mood to listen to pop, I listen to pop. I like techno, country, classical, Celtic you name it. Again it just what mood I am in.

My original playlist had lots of variety of inspirational walking music. Everything from Skillet, POD to Nightwish and Symphony X. I even had Walk by Pantara :-P. Yeah I like anything that I think is “good” and shows unique talent for that genre.

Very good question. Keep …

Lightening

FAQ, Inman, South Carolina

(response to comment)
It’s such a small chance to be hit by lightning I really don’t worry about it. I mean I do my best to reduce my risk on everything I do, but there are things just out of my control. I never worry about things I can’t control, rather just smile and have faith.

If it’s heavy …

Amend

FAQ, Inman, South Carolina

In addition to that last answer, while walking it’s impossible for a storm to sneak up on you. You can see the dark clouds 2 miles away, which is a long distance for me. So if a rolling T-storm looks like it will hit, I will put on my rain gear early while I walk, just in case it …

Storms

FAQ, Inman, South Carolina

Q: What do I do when storms pop up?

A: Usually I have a forecast from either my Helio or my friends. If it’s a passing storm I find some place, like under some trees, and put on full rain gear and wait it out. I tried walking in rain gear before but traffic is far too dangerous, so I wait them out. If the forecast shows a storm will be around during and after my pack-up/camp setup, I will wait till it ends to get moving, or set up camp earlier in the afternoon and just lose part of my day. …
